New York Steak... What's in a name?

According to Google...and we all know the internet is always correct... when asked, "Why is this steak called the New York Steak?" Here is what the internet had to say...

"Delmonico's, a New York City restaurant founded in 1827, offered the New York strip steak as its signature dish and called it the Delmonico steak. Because the restaurant was located in New York City, this strip steak is often referred to as a New York strip steak." So cool!!

Location Please!

The short loin is one of the most flavorful cuts of beef. Located toward the back of the animal, it comes from the muscle that does very little work, making this steak easy to eat and one of the most popular cuts of steak. It's fantastic no matter how you cook it, grilled, fried or even broiled, just a little salt and pepper and you are in business. Just kidding, use Buddy's BBQ sauce, it's just this side of heaven!

Melt in your mouth....

There has been some questions on cut, tenderness and flavor, so I hope this guide helps as you navigate the different cuts and how they measure up on a tenderness scale.

This is a great article from The Spruce on the different cuts of meat - click here for that article.

Fun Fact!

In the United States and Canada it is also known as strip loin, shell steak, or Kansas City strip steak.

In Australia it is known as a porterhouse steak or boneless sirloin.

In the UK it is called sirloin.

In Ireland it is called striploin.

I'm sure we could keep going, but you get the point... a steak by any other name... could be the same.

See you at the corner!
